Inspiring learning to last a lifetime.

Our Ethos & Values

St Nicholas School provides the opportunity for boys and girls to learn and develop their talents in a place committed to the beliefs and values of the Anglican expression of the Christian Faith. In the Instrument of Government (1 March 1999) the ethos of the School is described as:

  •  Recognising its historic foundation, the School will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles and practices of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish, local and diocesan level.

  • The School aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.

We hope that when our children leave the School, they will be confident and caring people, fully prepared for their chosen secondary school and able to show respect and understanding for all the beliefs and customs they encounter in the community today.

At St Nicholas, we believe in the inherent talent of each child and that our purpose is to empower children to be confident, creative, independent learners who will become responsible, caring, inspirational members of society. As a Church of England school, Christian values are at the heart of our teaching and learning and are demonstrated in the relationships within the school and with the community.

We aim to provide children with interesting and new experiences from which they can learn, opportunities to be challenged and time to practise and develop newly acquired skills and knowledge. We want children to be happy, confident and positive about learning.
